** BLOG TOUR ** REVIEW ** EXCERPT ** GIVEAWAY ** Kick (Savage Saints MC #1) by Carmen Jenner

I loved Ms Jenner's Sugartown series and when I found out she was writing another book, I just had to check it out, and I'm glad I did.

Introducing, Kick (Savage Saints MC #1), real, gritty, fascinating and definitely not for the faint of heart!

Title: Kick (Savage Saints MC #1)
Author: Carmen Jenner
Release Date: 26 January 2015
Genre: Dark Romance, Adult
This is a standalone, within a series of interconnected characters.

When I was ten, my father indoctrinated me into the family.

A brotherhood who would fight, protect, and give their lives for one another. A club whose ties ran thicker than blood, murkier than the dirt and grime that tainted my soul. Stronger than the bonds that connected me to my own family.

A band of brothers, where loyalty was kept and paid in a currency of blood.

When I was twenty-seven, I betrayed that brotherhood.

I’ve spent every day since running, avoiding paying back that debt.

My name is Daniel Johnson. I have betrayed everyone I ever loved.

And I’ll betray her too.

This is my story—if you’re screwed up enough to want to read it.

Warning: Kick contains graphic violence, profanity, drug use, and explicit sexual situations of a taboo nature. Intended for an 18+ audience only. Not intended for pussies

I pick up a cup of cold, stale, black coffee and chug it down. It tastes like shit, so I screw the cap off of a bottle of Jack and chase the black filth with the burn of amber. I set it back on the table while the familiar click of my gun being cocked echoes through my small room. I laugh. Fucking ballsy bitches make me hot.

“Hands in the air, and turn around. Slowly,” the woman says through a scratchy throat. I do as she asks, mostly because I want to keep my spine intact, but also partly because bitches with guns are fucking hot, and I’m hard as a rock just thinking about the way she’s gonna look with a pistol trained on me.

She’s been busy while I was out, rummaging through my drawers and finding a pair of loose tracksuit pants. They’re rolled at the waist, so much that it makes her look pregnant. That, combined with her crazy fuckin’ cat lady hair and the filth covering her body, makes her look like a homeless person.

I smile and clasp my hands behind my head. Her eyes rove over me, taking in my size. She’s checking me for the arsenal I so obviously have stashed away in my fucking worn, faded jeans. She’s not checking me out and dreaming about me taking her rough and hard on my fucking scratched-up dining table, but I still get a fucking boner out of having her eyes roam all over me.

“Pick up the keys, and open the door,” she commands.

“If you run, they’ll shoot you.”

“Pick up the fucking keys.”

I snatch up the keys and lob them at her, hard enough that she has to twist out of the way. She cries out as she does, proving to me that her ribs are definitely injured, maybe even cracked. I lunge at her. Shoving her back against the bed, I land on top of her, warding off her blows with one hand and squeezing her wrist with the other until she drops the gun on the floor.

“Get off me!” she screams.

“You’re not leaving this clubhouse,” I whisper in her ear as she struggles beneath me. “The best you can hope for is to play nice and I might decide to keep you as a house mouse. But if you piss me off, and if you pull on me with my own gun again, your life will be so much worse. You thought the dentist was fucked up? Baby, you haven’t seen anything until you’ve lived inside my fantasies for a day. So if I were you, I’d be really fuckin’ careful about how you play your next move.”

Holy freakin batman, todo, we are DEFINITELY NOT in Sugartown no more! You want sugar, then turn around and move the f^*k on, 'cause this book ain't sunshine and lollipops. No sir-ree!

Wow. Mind was totally blown within the first few pages and not in a bad way even though some totally wacked up shit happens. Ms Jenner is straight up at the beginning warning readers that this isn't going to be pretty.

… it will challenge you, it will probably break your heart, and you will find some of it distressing.

This book contains what may be hard limits for some such as gang rape and stone cold execution style shootings, so if that's not something you think you can handle reading, than this definitely is not the book for you. Think, pulp fiction - if you've ever seen the movie (and I've only seen the last 15-20 mins and this book reminded me of that).

If you have read the Sugartown series, then you are already familiar with Kick (Daniel), a born and bred MC brat. Tatted, scared and hard core criminal tendencies are ingrained in him, which he acknowledges and doesn't apologize for.

I'm not the hero in this story; I'm the motherf*cking villain.

One of the clubs old ladies is molested by the local dentist and Kick is sent in to pick him up. What he finds is not what he expects.

"I'm not gonna hurt you." I whisper, but I guess the fact that I just shot a man in cold blood three inches from her face might sort of imply otherwise - she is covered in his brain matter, after all.

The abused and battered, Indie calls to Kick on some deep emotional level, reminding him of the love and loss he once felt in Lauren, a girl who paid the ultimate price for being involved with him.

My gaze rolls over her from head to toe. There are bruises everywhere, but it seems as though he only liked to really mess up her face and mouth.
"She's not Lauren."
I close my eyes. "Don't say her name. Not here."

I can't say I enjoyed the book as such, yet I couldn't put it down. Enjoyed seems too … perky and happy for how I felt. I think awed and fascinated are more accurate to describe my feelings. It definitely was eye opening and if it wasn't for being brilliantly written then I think it would have been a DNF. This book was hard core gritty, real and totally refreshing. All of the MC books that I've read have romanticized the biker world, which by all means could be real as society has the habit of brutalizing things that are different to what we would classify as the norm.  I've never experienced that world or know of anyone who has, but if we were to believe the media, TV and movies to what the dark underbelly of MC clubs are really like then I would think Carmen has done a freakingly fantastic job.  This story is definitely not for the faint hearted. It does have a romantic element to it, but it definitely is not a romance in the intended meaning of the word.

The book contains POV's from Indie and Kick. However, Kick's does flicker back and forth to his time with Lauren and her ultimate demise. I thought it was great that we got into his head and experienced what happened to him that has intensely shaped the way he has become, but unfortunately in the beginning I had a hard time following, swapping between past and present. I found myself re-reading just to get my head around where I was. That's where it loses a star for me.

Other than that, a fantastic read. Ms Jenner paints a very vivid picture and I look forward to what she has in store for us, as this series continues :)
